Due to continuing mismanagement of the Boot Estate, large areas of the estate are described by residents as ‘like a war zone’ littered with death traps after the Lib-Dem run city council tried to evade responsibility for the redevelopment debacle by transferring the Boot homes to a local housing association.
It is 10 years since the Lib-Dem‘s decided to demolish the estate and 6 years since Councillor Richard Kemp had been forced to resign by residents due to his mishandling of the original redevelopment proposal.
As reported in the Labour Councillor Update 11 above, the Lib-Dem run council finally conceded to pressure from residents and agreed to put Boot Decant Phases 2 & 3 at the top of the City Wide Order of Priorities which enhanced their chances of getting a new home.
Disgracefully, Boot Phase 4 and Boot Phase 5 only moved to 38th and 39th on the CWOP list and residents vowed to continue their campaign around the demand that ‘everyone who wants to remain on the estate will be able to do so’.
